Pianist and music Professor Emeritus W. Terrence Spiller will give a recital titled “Suites and Dances” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 24, in the Pavilion of the Performing Arts Center.
Spiller will perform a variety of dance-inspired repertory ranging from the mid-18th century, and into the early 20th century.
The program will begin with J.S. Bach’s “Partita No. 2 in C Minor,” BWV 826; followed by Béla Bartók’s own transcription of his orchestral work, “Dance Suite” BB 86b.
The second half of the program will feature Maurice Ravel’s “Valses nobles et sentimentales,” three Mazurkas by Frédéric Chopin, and it will conclude with Isaac Albéniz’ “Rondeña” and “Triana”from his “Iberia,” Book 2.
Spiller retired from teaching at Cal Poly in 2023. He was a member of the Music Department faculty for 32 years, and served as its chair from 2004-19.
